Most Oklahomans live in two metro areas. Oklahoma City, the capital, spreads across the center of the state with Edmond, Moore and Norman around it, while Tulsa sits on the Arkansas River in the northeast with Broken Arrow and Owasso nearby. Lawton in the southwest, Stillwater, Enid and Muskogee round out the places where entries come from, along with countless small towns.
Two big universities set much of the rhythm. The University of Oklahoma in Norman and Oklahoma State in Stillwater draw students from the whole region, and their game days are some of the biggest social events in the state. Energy, aviation and agriculture shape the economy, the state is home to many tribal nations, and old Route 66 still runs through Tulsa and Oklahoma City.
Oklahoma has a long tradition of pageants, rodeo queens and community titles, but many of them come with fees and travel.
